I am an assistant professor in the Journalism and Public Relations Department at California State University, Long Beach, where I teach classes in media literacy, graphic design, news writing, and research methods. I love my job, I love my students, and I love my city!

My primary line of research surrounds privacy concerns related to the influx of social media sharing and mobile datamining. My research seeks to to determine how much attention mobile application users pay to terms and conditions prior to download, given varying degrees of motivation and opportunity. In addition to exploring information as a commodity, my research focuses on media effects and framing of key social and political issues such as immigration, healthcare, and transgender media coverage. Current projects include content analyses of framing theory, perpetual foreigner stereotypes, and social media as a public forum.

This blog details my journey as I try to make my way in Southern California.
