My time at Augusta University is finally coming to a wrap, and with fewer than three months to go before I set foot in Long Beach I’m slowly getting my ducks into order.
The first of those ducks involved moving out of my office on campus, which I just finished up yesterday. It’s still too early to pack up my apartment, but it does make me excited to see moving boxes begin to accumulate. I didn’t keep too much stuff in my office, but it was enough to fill three boxes with books, drag mementos, and Funko Pops I lacked the shelf space to display at home, as well as my diplomas. As I lugged each of the boxes to my car, I thought about hauling them up the stairs to my AU office just three years prior. Then I thought about the next time I would move them — into my office at CSULB, in the suite with bring yellow walls, where they’ll stay. It’s finally starting to feel soon!

I have my Multiplatform Reporting final on Tuesday, my Media Literacy final on Thursday, and I’ll turn in my keys on Friday. And from that moment on Augusta University will be in my rear view mirror as I run full-steam ahead to CSULB! I cannot get there fast enough.
Speaking of CSULB — I’ve made some progress there as well. I ordered my textbooks for the fall semester earlier today and plan to spend most of tomorrow on syllabi and schedules. I still have to make my way through some on-boarding materials as well, because I’m trying to get as much done before my move as possible. I am sure I will find plenty of things to take up my time and attention at the end of July and start of August! The fewer HR-type things I need to think about, the better.
Lemon was my second duck this week. Getting my pets set up with a good veterinarian in a new city is one of the most stressful parts of any move I make. Since it could be a minute before I’ve found my footing in California, I wanted to make sure my girl was taken care of before we set off. (The boys aren’t due for a check up until October.) Lemon took her yearly shots like a champ and was even patient enough for blood work and a nail trim. (She’s notoriously bad at the vet, and everywhere else really.) She’d lost a little weight and she tested negative for heartworms. All around a great vet visit for a rotten but sweet baby Lems.

My last real moving update for the week is that I finally figured out what to do during the two weeks that I will be without a bed. I’m shipping the majority of my stuff via U-Haul pods, which will allow me to drive myself and the pets over in the Mirage. It’s a killer and convenient plan, the only downside being that I’ll arrive in California about two weeks ahead of my stuff. I’d considered an air mattress, but with two cats and a dog, I’m dealing with far too many paws and claws to make that a feasible option. A friend suggested a folding memory foam mattress, available on Amazon for about $50. It should be about perfect! It should arrive on Wednesday, so I’ll let you know what I think in my next update.
