While most of my Blogaroo posts have focused on Bonnaroo’s musical artists, I would not be doing it justice if I didn’t at least mention the hilarious comedic talent that will also make an appearance over the weekend. Unlike many other festivals, Roo features a series of comedy acts — this year’s most notable being Cheech Marin, of the infamous Cheech and Chong.

Cheech will be hosting Roo’s 420 Comedy Blaze, featuring Ralphie May (of Last Comic Standing), Jay Pharoah (of Saturday Night Live) and the stars of Workaholics.

Cheech graduated for the California State University of Northridge and was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa, a nationally-recognized fraternity. He didn’t meet Tommy Chong until he dodged the Vietnam draft, moving to Vancouver, British Columbia in 1967.

And from there I suppose it was history. The duo starred in about eight movies together, my favorite being Up in Smoke. I’ve included the original 1978 trailer, for your viewing enjoyment.

.

Addam and I usually attend one or two comedy acts each summer, and this year the only artist we really care to at see is Cheech. He’s performing Thursday at midnight and Friday at 12:30 p.m., so we’ll definitely make at least one of his shows. CanNOT wait.

We saw Cheech and Chong in Columbus a couple of months ago. It was fun, but it was Chong who was hilarious.

I would much rather see Chong myself! I always thought he was the funnier of the two.
