Bassnectar aka Lorin Ashton is a DJ, producer and wobble bass master from Santa Cruz, California. His electronic mixes combine mainstream tunes with a dubstep style, giving his music that perfect womp, womp, womp that keeps me coming back for more.

Ashton is kind of a festi stronghold, and I saw him three times last summer alone. That being said — familiarity does not detract from the fact that this guy really rocks. (And no, it’s not just his hair.)  His shows are always fun, and — truth be told — dude is not too bad to look at. I used to have a photo of him as the background of my computer and was asked on countless occasions if it was Addam.

Below is a video Addam made of Bassnectar at Summer Camp 2010.

.

While he played during the day at Summer Camp, to truly appreciate Bassnectar you have to check a night set. It may be a short trip, but he can drive a crowd crazy. As his beats build so does the rain of glow sticks climbing up from the crowd and plunging into a sea of dirty, spaced-out hippies, quickly shuffling to pick up the pieces and start again. Not to mention, his light shows are epic. He’s playing 12:3o to 2 Friday night, so it should be a pretty awesome performance. But then again, his always are.
