“Gypsy punk band” Gogol Bordello got together in San Francisco in 1999 and has since become known for being one hell of a show. The group provides theatrical performances to both the accordion and the violin, rarities among most of today’s musical artists. Mix their energy with a punk and dub sound, and it’s easy to see how the band quickly rose to international stardome.
While the group is dedicated to its musical pursuits, the band has appeared in a number of independent films, the most notable being Everything Is Illuminated, starring lead singer Eugene Hütz and dreamboat Elijah Wood. The group contributed two songs to the film’s score, Bublitschki and Start Wearing Purple.
Even though they were at Bonnaoo in 2008, Addam and I have yet to check the group out. They’re playing from 2 to 3:30 Saturday morning, which, almost, kinda, sorta conflicts with Girl Talk. But I’m definitely going to try to make it out to their show this year. I mean, at least part of it…
Check out the video I’ve included from Bonnaroo 2008 for a better perspective…
.
While I’m not as familiar with this band as many of the others I’ve profiled, I have to say that they’re one of the most energetic. They get you on your feet, so I’m anticipating a rave Saturday night. Which is exactly what I need after the looooong few work weeks I’ve had.
