Atmosphere has been on the  scene since 1989, making it one of the oldest independent hip hop groups in the US. The group hails from  Minneapolis, Minnesota and includes rapper Sean Daley (Slug) and DJ/ProducerAnthony Davis (Ant). In interviews Slug has credited the group’s success to constant touring, saying that in the band’s early days they once drove from Minneapolis to Dallas to play a $250 show.

While this will be my first time seeing Atmosphere, the group performed at Bonnaroo in 2006 and Lollapalooza in 2009. Addam and I were at Lolla, but they were up against someone we had to see, and we hadn’t really heard of them at the time. We actually got into the group after watching a Fuse special on the event a few weeks after. The show featured a performance by the band, and we’ve been hooked ever since.

Check out the video I found from their Bonnaroo 06 performance.

I think Atmosphere should be a pretty awesome show. While their style is more reminiscent of Method Man or Mos Def, the group’s lyrics remind me of  Eminem. From what I’ve heard, all of their albums are pretty funny, which is something I’ve come to appreciate.
