Bear with me guys. It’s been a long week, and I’m going on a very minimal amount of sleep. That being said, I’m going to do my damnedest to write a full, coherent blog post.
After five or six years of service, Friday was Danae’s last day at Miami Today, so after work a group of us went down to Tobacco Road to celebrate her new opportunity. Addam got off work early, so he came out too. We spent a couple of hours hanging with the news crew before we decided to head down to Ultra, Miami’s very own, mini-Lollapalooza.
We couldn’t get in, but we hung by the fence in the hopes that someone would either drop or give us a ticket. Neither happened, so after an hour or so we headed home.
Once we got home I got a text from Danae, who said that she and her husband, Adrian, her friend Stephanie, who used to intern for Miami Today, and a few others were all heading to Churchill’s for after drink-drinks. Addam and I met up with them but didn’t pay the $8 cover to go in because we planned on crashing relatively earlier. (You know, 3 a.m. or so…)
Unlike Friday, Saturday was pretty low-key. Addam’s been waiting for years to get National Lampoon’s Quest for Festeroo, a festival mockumentary staring Les Claypool as the lead singer of Electric Apricot, and he finally ordered it. It arrived Saturday morning, so we watched that a couple of times before the boy went off to work.
Once he left for Red Lobster, I ran to PetSmart to pick Yoga up some more flea medication (four months, flea free — hell yeah!) and then I came home to do absolutely nothing for the rest of the day.
While Saturday was relatively uneventful, Sunday was incredibly exciting.
Addam had to work in the morning, but he was off by about 4:30 or 5 p.m. After he decompressed for a couple of hours we headed to our friend Cameron’s house, who we met while we were hanging at Vicki and Tati’s one night.
Cameron lives in a 45th-story apartment in the heart of downtown, directly overlooking Bicentennial Park. (Or, more importantly, directly overlooking Ultra.) It didn’t take us long to get to his place, but as soon as we did we ran into Vicki, Tati and John, who were waiting to go upstairs. I didn’t even know they were going to be there, so imagine my surprise when I caught them out of the corner of my eye. It was a good omen for an even better night.
We weren’t in Cameron’s apartment two minutes before the majority of us headed to the balcony to check out the view of the festival. And, good Lord was it amazing! I had no idea that we were going to be as close to the concert as we were, but we had a perfect view of both the main stage and the hoards of people surrounding it. We had binoculars and a camcorder to zoom in on the action, but the light show was so amazing, I didn’t bother too much with either.
You could hear the music from the balcony, but I was much more interested in hanging out and having fun than trying to catch every note.
Addam really wanted in though. So when I ran to the store and was offered a free ticket to the last 20 minutes of the show, I immediately ran back upstairs to hand it over. As much as it sucks that we didn’t get to attend much of the event, Addam appreciated being a part of it, if even for a half hour. And I definitely couldn’t have had better company back at Cameron’s. Music is meant to be shared with friends, and I definitely enjoyed the night to the fullest.
It was pretty late by the time the show ended and Addam made it back to the apartment, so we left shortly after. Of course, by that point we hadn’t eaten for most of the day and absolutely had to stop at Denny’s, where we ran into — SURPRISE! — Vicki, Tati and John. (Honestly, could we have had better timing this weekend?) They were already seated, so we pulled up some chairs and decided to make a full night of it.
After dinner, or breakfast — depending on how you look at it, Addam and I biked home just in time for me to crawl into bed before my alarm went off the next morning. It was a long Monday, but I wouldn’t have changed one bit of my weekend, especially for a couple more hours of sleep. It sounds cliché, but I’m 24. I’ll sleep when I’m dead. I was much more concerned with hanging with Vicki and Tati.
Which reminds me that they will be coming over this weekend for to watch Black Swan! I’ve been completely obsessed with this movie since I saw it in theaters around Christmas and have been counting the days until its release. Vicki and Tati have never seen it, so it should be a pretty fun night. (Of course, I’ll have probably watched the damn thing 13 times by the time they get here.)
Other than that — I have an appointment set up at David’s Bridal on Saturday and hope to make my final decision. Vicki and Tati are going to spend the night on Friday so we can make sure to get up and out on time.
I am ridiculously excited. I feel like a little kid, but it’s been so long since I’ve had a “slumber party” that I’m getting really amped up about it. At the very, very least, it’ll give me something to look forward to throughout my work week.
Now that I won’t have the Black Swan release to obsess about I’m going to need something.
